For this Madden Tips and Plays breakdown video breakdown, we show two defensive plays that feature QB Contain Five Pass Rush. What these two defenses do is bring A Gap pressure from the nose tackle while also having two outside linebackers in QB Contain.

The idea behind this setup is to prevent the quarterback from rolling out while still getting inside pressure.

Quick Set-Up:

  1.  Crash defensive line out
  2. Take control of the NT and hot route him into QB Spy.
  3. Call press (optional).

Coaching Points:

  1. The design of the defensive setup is to bring a gap of heat from the nose tackle such as shown in the image above.
  2. If the quarterback was to take off, hopefully one of the outside linebackers can prevent him from getting outside.
  3. Something else to consider if you're fast enough on the controller is putting the free safety in QB Spy. This will ad addintoal Defender into preventing the quarterback from taking off to run. Obviously, the downside to this is now you do not have a deep defender over the middle playing zone.
  4. If the runningback were to stay in the past block, then the linebacker who was in man coverage on him would now be in QB Spy.
  5. Use the bull rush if the runningback stays in the past block to get by the runningback and get to the quarterback while in control of the nose tackle.
