For this Madden Tips breakdown, we look at how to get pressure from the 5-2 Normal formation with only a four- . We use Cover 1, , Cover 3 coverages to get pressure. As a bonus, we show how to get pressure from 5-2 Formation with only a 3 man pass rush.

The defensive that we call from the 5-2 formation for this a breakdown is Cover 1.

To set up the play, we press left on the d-pad and then press down on the right stick. This will slant the defensive line to the inside.

The next step we make is to hot route the left in in to QB Spy.

Here is what the setup now looks like once the two pre-snap adjustments have been made.

Notice the right end and nose tackle both cross each other. This is a stunt that is created between them.

The left end will also slant to the inside. All three defenders will rush in the middle towards the three interior offensive lineman.

Notice the right tackle does not look to block anyone.

In the image above, you can see all three defenders that are rushing to the inside. This creates confusion for the offensive line.

Both the nose tackle and right end are able to break through and apply pressure on a quarterback. Notice the right tackle still does not look to block any of the pass rushers.

The outside linebacker we subbed in at the left end position in the 5-2 formation is now dropping back in QB spy.

The nose tackle sacks the quarterback for a loss.

Final Thoughts:

The 5-2 formation four man pass is a simple setup as it requires no pre-snap movement of any defenders. Throw in the fact it can be run from pretty much any 5-2 play in the makes it versatile because of the coverages behind it.
