4-3 Over – Sam Will Blitz

In this Madden Plays breakdown, we show you a blitz out over that will bring pressure from the right outside linebacker. The defense is the 4-3 Over – Sam Will Blitz. This is one of those defenses that we can get inside pressure without having to make any pre-snap adjustments. However, we also can get outside pressure while dropping a defender in zone coverage.

The 4-3 Over – Sam Will Blitz is a Cover 0 defense that sends 6 pass rushers after the quarterback. The other five defenses play man coverage.

Default Assignments:

Quick Set-Up:

1. Call bump-n-run man coverage (optional)
2. Hot route the LOLB to bluff blitz.
3. Move the LOLB between the RE and WDT, while near line of scrimmage.
4. Release the LOLB.
5. Switch to any other defender of your choice.

Coaching Points:

1. The pressure comes from the right outside linebacker off the edge.
2. If you rather control the left outside, switch off him, then switch back to him.
3. If there is a six man pass protection scheme, the right outside linebacker will be blocked.
4. The pressure from right outside linebacker works against Gun formations.
5. High risk high reward defense as there is no deep safety help.
6. Consider putting your fastest linebacker at the right outside linebacker position.

The 4-3 Over – Sam Will Blitz is a defense you won't want to run too often because of the high risk/high reward that's involved anytime you call it. With that said, if you mix in with other defenses such as 4-3 Over – Cover 2 Man with the same look, you can keep your opponent off-balanced.
